Marvelous Nakamba Returns to Action Amid Uncertainty Over Luton Town Future

Marvelous Nakamba has finally returned to the pitch, but not for Luton Town’s senior squad. The Zimbabwean midfielder featured for the club’s U21 side in a friendly against Leyton Orient on Wednesday afternoon, marking his first appearance in months.

Nakamba, who had been training separately from the first team, was left out of all Luton’s pre-season friendlies. He also missed their League One season opener against AFC Wimbledon last Friday.

The 30-year-old’s absence from competitive action had raised eyebrows, with rumours swirling that a move away from Luton could be on the cards following their relegation from the Championship.

Luton Town head coach Matt Bloomfield recently addressed the speculation, hinting that the door is open for Nakamba to leave, but only under the right conditions. This means the club isn’t desperate to sell, but won’t stand in the way if a suitable offer comes along.

“Marv has been a fantastic player for our football club, but he’s someone who played in the Premier League two seasons ago and has attracted interest,” Bloomfield told Luton Today.

He pointed out that Nakamba’s Premier League experience had naturally attracted interest. He also grouped Nakamba with teammates Tahith Chong and Teden Mengi, suggesting all three could leave if the right deals are struck.

“He’s been here with us in pre-season, so he’s in the same boat as Chong and Mengi, I would suggest. If he’s still here at the end of the window, he’s part of us; if we get the right offer and Marv wants to take it, then we’ll discuss that at the time.”
