Minister Gayton McKenzie Under Fire After His Old Tweets Wishing Defeat for Springboks Resurface
Sports, Arts, and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie has come under fire after his tweets from 2015 resurfaced in which he openly wished for the Springboks to lose.
The tweet, posted under his handle, read:
“May the Springboks be beaten today!”
In another tweet, he wrote;
“I hope Springboks fall tomorrow “
The old tweets surfaced after Minister McKenzie posted a tweet, surprisingly rallying behind the Springboks ahead of their match against Wallabies.
“The @Springboks will destroy the @wallabies today. Totally !!!!”
The post has sparked outrage on social media, with many questioning whether McKenzie, now tasked with championing South African sport, can credibly lead the nation’s sporting agenda.

Scrutiny Over Gayton McKenzie’s Tenure Intensifies
The backlash emerges as McKenzie’s tenure is already under close watch. The South African Human Rights Commission is investigating older social media posts by the minister containing racially offensive language, adding to concerns about his suitability for his current role.
While McKenzie has recently praised the Springboks, including celebrating their 30-22 victory over the Wallabies at Cape Town’s DHL Stadium on 23 August, critics argue that his silence on the resurfaced tweet casts doubt on his loyalty to the national team.

Definitely next term you are not becoming a minister
@AfterEarth;
You being the face of Sports and Art & Culture is not working man… When ever you post about the success of our sports men or artists, race is always the main topic.
