More Details Emerge on How Zebra Kiss Crew Detained and Bashed Female Passenger
Shocking details have emerged in court about how six Zebra Kiss employees allegedly teamed up to brutally assault a female passenger at the company’s Harare garage.
The alleged attack, which took place on 5 June 2025, involved beatings with a guava tree stick, slaps to the face, and cold water being poured over the victim’s body. The incident was brought before Mbare Magistrate Tatenda Mukurunga on Tuesday, 10 June 2025, where the six men appeared facing charges of assault and theft.
The victim, 27-year-old Charlotte Dube from Stoneridge, had just arrived from Zambia on a Zebra Kiss bus. As passengers disembarked and collected their luggage, one woman claimed she was missing a sack of wares. That’s when employee Romario Mugabe allegedly accused Charlotte of stealing the missing sack, pointing out that she had only declared a green bag at boarding but now had both a bag and a sack.
Before confirming whether the sack was indeed stolen, Romario allegedly slapped Charlotte twice and ordered her back onto the bus. After the contents were checked and handed over to the other passenger, five more Zebra Kiss workers joined Romario and allegedly launched a coordinated assault on Charlotte.
According to the State, Marlvin Maidei beat Charlotte with a wooden stick taken from a guava tree, hitting her repeatedly on the back and buttocks. Decent Musonza and Kudakwashe Gotora also allegedly used similar sticks to assault her in the same manner. Meanwhile, Munashe Nhambura is said to have poured cold water all over her body.
Romario is accused of slapping her again, and Pardon Chivhanga, who was reportedly standing nearby, is said to have given instructions to the others throughout the assault. After the beating, Pardon allegedly ordered that Charlotte be given water to clean herself.
Charlotte sustained multiple injuries and was later medically examined.
Despite the disturbing nature of the attack, all six men were released on free bail and are expected to return to court on 17 July 2025.
