More Details Emerge On The NUST Student Who was Found Dead And Decomposing In His Room

Bulawayo police are treating the death of Absolom Junior Sakala, a former National University of Science and Technology (NUST) student found dead in his room, as a case of sudden death, with no foul play suspected.

The 24-year-old’s decomposing body was discovered last Thursday at the Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe Student Accommodation Complex in Bulawayo. Sakala was found dead in his room at the Complex. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition.

The discovery was made after students noticed a pungent smell and flies around the door and window. They informed the caretaker, who then alerted the security guard. Upon opening the door, they found the student lying on the bed with no visible injuries.

Speaking to The Sunday News, Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed that the incident is being handled as a sudden death.

“I can confirm that as police we are treating the Bulawayo Student Accommodation case as a sudden death,” he said.

Authorities have not revealed the cause of death, but their classification of the case suggests there was no immediate evidence of suspicious circumstances.

Sakala, who had failed his academic modules in 2023, was no longer a student at Nust at the time of his death, according to university officials. His presence at the student accommodation complex, despite no longer being enrolled, remains unclear. However, police have made it clear that their investigation has not pointed to any criminal activity.
