Mukwasha Mboko: Man Kills Father-In-Law After Wife Runs Away From Beating

Man Kills Father-in-Law for Confronting Him Over Beating Wife

A 25-year-old man from Rockdale, Epworth is on the run after allegedly killing his father-in-law, who had confronted him over physically abusing his wife.

Police said Brian Chikwenjere struck 48-year-old Aaron Kwenda on the forehead with a burning log after a heated altercation at around 8pm on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

Fight over wife turns deadly

The drama began when Brian allegedly beat up his wife, Shalome Kwenda. She fled the house, prompting her father, Aaron, to confront his son-in-law.

According to police, Aaron was furious about how his daughter was being treated.

“The deceased narrated to his friend on how angry he was with the accused since he was in a habit of physically and verbally abusing his daughter,”
said Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza.

Aaron and his friend, Joseph Gwarada (46), found Brian at a tuck shop near the house. Things quickly turned violent.

“One of the tenants indicated that the accused person’s wife ran away after being thoroughly beaten. This did not go down well with the now deceased, who went after the accused,”
said Inspector Chakanza.

Aaron allegedly grabbed Brian by the collar and pulled him out of the shop. A fight broke out. Joseph tried to intervene.

Struck with burning log

Police say Brian retaliated with force.

“The accused went behind the tuck-shop, grabbed a log from the fire and started assaulting the friend on his head,”
said Inspector Chakanza.

Aaron attempted to stop Brian from attacking Joseph but was fatally struck in the forehead.

“The accused turned and struck him once with the log and he fell to the ground,”
said Inspector Chakanza.

Joseph sustained a cut on the nose, swollen hands, and rib pain. Aaron died at the scene. His body was taken to Chitungwiza Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

Brian fled and has not yet been apprehended.

Police appeal for information

The police have launched a manhunt and are urging members of the public to assist.

“We are investigating a murder case involving in-laws at Rockdale in Epworth,”
said Inspector Chakanza.

He added that anyone with information on Brian’s whereabouts should report to the nearest police station.

The motive, according to investigators, stemmed from the accused’s history of domestic violence.
