Nafiz Modack trial temporarily delayed

The high-profile trial against alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack was delayed in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.

Prosecutors are ready to continue using cellphone evidence to prove Modack plotted to have slain top cop Charl Kinnear murdered.

The State alleges Modack and two co-accused planned a grenade attack on Kinnear, before his murder in September 2020.

The State’s witness, Hawks officer, Captain Trevor Shaw is ready to produce more cellphone messages between co-accused Amaal Jantjies and Modack.

Modack, Jantjies and Jannick Adonis are charged with conspiracy to commit murder for allegedly planning a grenade attack on Kinnear in November 2019, which was foiled by police.

The State alleges Modack planned the attack because Kinnear arrested his wife on a firearms charge in October 2019.

However, proceedings were delayed after the vehicle transporting another co-accused from Drankenstein Prison had a puncture.

The matter is set to proceed later on Monday.
