No Arrests Yet In Mutangadura Murder Case, Police Dismiss Social Media Claims

Police have rubbished reports circulating on social media claiming that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of businessman Mr Joseph “Mutangaz” Mutangadura in Ruwa.

Police deny social media reports

The 67-year-old businessman was shot during a suspected armed robbery at his Ruwa home on Sunday night, 17 August 2025. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital.

Since then, police have launched a manhunt for seven suspects believed to be behind the murder.

But on Thursday, 21 August 2025, social media was awash with posts claiming that one of the suspects had been cornered and arrested after a gunfight in Gazebo.

One widely shared post claimed:

“The suspect exchanged gunfire with police in Gazebo before being captured. He later revealed that some of his colleagues were hiding in Epworth.”

However, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi dismissed the reports as false.

In an interview with Zimpapers, he said:

“People should disregard what is being circulated on social media. The police will officially pronounce any developments regards the Mutangadura incident. Those who are putting information on social media which is not verified should be careful, lest they interfere with investigations and in the process derail what the police is doing” as per H-Metro.

He stressed that investigations were still ongoing and no arrests had yet been made.

Mr Mutangadura’s son, Munyaradzi, confirmed that his father’s body would be collected from the funeral parlour on Friday, 22 August 2025. A church service will be held at his Ruwa home that evening before burial at Goromonzi Turnoff Cemetery on Saturday, 23 August 2025.

Police vow to bring killers to book

Despite false claims on social media, police have reiterated their commitment to tracking down the culprits.

Commissioner Nyathi urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could derail investigations.

The police continue to appeal for information that could assist in bringing the killers of Mr Mutangadura to justice.
