Nomzamo & Lwandle residents plead for help in wake of storm

Some residents of Nomzamo and Lwandle near Strand in Cape Town are pleading for assistance with building materials.

This after their homes were badly damaged by the recent stormy weather in the Western Cape.

Hundreds of people have been left without roofs over their heads, after the weekend’s gale-force winds and a massive storm that made landfall on Sunday night.

Over the past three days, disaster management teams have been responding to numerous calls of infrastructure damage, localized flooding, and fires across the province.

Lwandle resident, Bukiwe Vanda, said that most people were unemployed and could not afford to buy building materials.

“So we’re asking for help, we have nothing left. We would appreciate it if the government can help us with zinc sheets.”

Nomzamo resident, Mzukisi Ntshayi, said that any help to rebuild their homes would be appreciated.

“The wind was too much over the weekend, and it destroyed formal and informal dwellings. Now we are left with nothing.”
