Norton Serial Killer Rumours Dismissed: Police Clarify That Cases Are Not Related

There is no serial killer in Norton: Authorities ease fears

Fears of a serial killer stalking the town of Norton have eased after authorities confirmed that one of two recent murder cases has been solved.

Man charged over bar fight stabbing

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) announced that 29-year-old Pardon Jena of Maridale in Norton appeared before the Norton Magistrates’ Court facing a murder charge.

According to prosecutors, Jena and the victim had left Seaways Bar in the early hours of 25 August 2025. The two were walking towards Kufa Garage at about 2AM when an argument began.

The NPA stated:

“The accused pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck, killing him instantly.”

The body was later discovered near Kufa Garage by a passer-by, who immediately informed the police.

Prosecutors say evidence was found linking Jena to the crime. Among the exhibits recovered were blood-stained shoes believed to have been worn during the fatal attack. He was arrested the same day near Petro Trade Garage.

Authorities have opposed bail, stressing the seriousness of the offence. Investigations are ongoing.

The NPA added in a statement:

“Murder is a grave crime. Members of the public are urged to resolve their disputes amicably.”

Second killing sparked serial killer fears

The death was the first of two murders reported within days in the commuter town, situated west of Harare.

The second case involved the killing of Jack Gedion, whose body was found on 26 August 2025 near Kufa Transport. Reports indicated that Gedion’s body showed signs of possible mutilation.

It was this second case that sparked rumours and fears of a serial killer. Social media speculation spread quickly, raising alarm among residents.

Police, however, have moved to calm the public. Investigators have said that, based on current evidence, the two killings are not linked.

Authorities move to reassure residents

With Jena now before the courts, authorities say the situation in Norton is under control.

The NPA has emphasised that communities should remain calm while police continue their investigations into Gedion’s murder.

Although one case remains unsolved, authorities say the evidence so far does not support fears of a serial killer.
