EMA’s penalty specifically cited excessive particulate matter emissions from PPC’s kiln stack and dust fallout. In response, the cement producer has initiated several corrective actions:

They promised to modify clinker handling procedures to reduce dust generation and planned the construction of specialised containment structures.

PPC will also upgrade filtration systems at multiple production sites and implement advanced digital monitoring platforms.

Technological and Operational Enhancements

PPC has invested significantly in emission control infrastructure, including complete bag filter replacements at three major plants. The company’s Riebeek and De Hoek facilities conducted comprehensive system analyses, comparing their particulate monitoring against global industry benchmarks.

“We’ve deployed the ABB Knowledge Management system group-wide to enhance emissions tracking and reporting capabilities,” noted the sustainability document.

“Our commitment to transparent environmental reporting and sustainable operations remains unwavering,” the company affirmed.

This development occurs amid increasing regulatory oversight and growing stakeholder expectations for industrial environmental accountability throughout Zimbabwe’s economic sectors.
