President Emmerson Mnangagwa is today set to officially open the prestigious new E.D Mnangagwa Law School at Midlands State University (MSU) in Kwekwe. In his capacity as the Chancellor of all State Universities, the Head of State will also preside over a graduation ceremony, the first to be held away from the institution’s main Gweru campus.
The event has drawn thousands of graduating students and their proud families to the new campus, creating a palpable atmosphere of anticipation. The institution, named in honour of the President, who is himself a legal professional, represents a significant investment in the nation’s educational infrastructure.

Among its 110 rooms are advanced lecture theatres, a comprehensive e-library, and a dedicated moot court. This moot court is designed to simulate real judicial proceedings, providing students with an invaluable firsthand understanding of courtroom dynamics and procedure. The campus also provides accommodation, a medical centre, staff residences, and kitchen facilities.

Beyond the law faculty, the new campus will also house the university’s Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Faculty of the Built Environment, making it a considerable centre for learning.
Catalyst For Local Transformation
The establishment of the campus has acted as a powerful catalyst for local development, radically altering the area’s economic landscape. What was once a predominantly rural setting has rapidly evolved into a bustling commercial hub.
A local resident, who has witnessed the transformation, remarked,
“The road from the town centre to the campus has been tarred and is now excellent. It has made life much easier for everyone, from farmers taking their goods to market to students and staff commuting every day.”
