The entertainer was diagnosed with stage-three choriocarcinoma earlier this year, a condition that has since spread to several parts of his body, including his lungs and spine.
The road to diagnosis alone was a costly ordeal, with exhaustive tests setting him back over R100,000 (US$5,300). While his medical aid has covered the treatment thus far, the funds are now critically depleted. With no current acting work lined up, Gumede is relying on fast-diminishing savings, forcing him to turn to the public for support through a GoFundMe campaign.

“I’d like to thank everyone so nice and supportive since I went public about having cancer. Your messages and encouragement mean the world,” Gumede stated.

“My oncologist told me this disease is first defeated mentally, and your texts and DMs really motivate me.”
