Scott Sakupwanya Donates US$100,000 to Simba Bhora for CAF Champions League Clash
Scottland FC president Scott Sakupwanya has come to Simba Bhora’s aid with a massive US$100,000 donation to support the team’s CAF Champions League preliminary round match against Eswatini’s Nsingizini Hotspurs.
The financial package comes as Simba Bhora prepares for their debut in Africa’s most prestigious club competition, with the first leg scheduled for this Sunday at the Obed Itai Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana. The venue was selected after their home ground in Shamva was deemed unfit by CAF.

More Incentives on the Table
Sakupwanya, who also funds the club through his company Better Brands, promised further backing if Simba Bhora progresses in the tournament.
“We want Simba Bhora to fly the Zimbabwean flag high on the continental stage. If they make it to the next round, I will also cover their winning bonuses,” he vowed.
Financial Relief for Simba Bhora
The donation is timely, as Simba Bhora have been grappling with hefty travel and accommodation expenses.
The return leg in Eswatini will be played the following weekend, with the aggregate winner advancing to the second round and facing tougher continental opposition.
Mixed Reactions to Sakupwanya’s Generosity
Scott Sakupwanya’s US$100,000 donation to Simba Bhora has sparked a range of reactions among football fans. While many praised his support for Zimbabwean football, others questioned the ethics of a club president funding another team in the same league. Some critics argued that such funds could instead be invested in stadiums and proper football facilities, pointing out that the country often hosts its own matches abroad due to inadequate infrastructure.
Here are some of the reactions:
@Tom Muronda;
Is it ethical tho that a club can sponsor activities of a club from the same league, FIFA ethics committee inozvibvuma here kuti man city isponsor leeds united.
@Evans Dube;
What Sakupwanya did is very good but where can we go as a country with this individualism.We want proper football facilities mostly stadiums.Now see we’re hosting our own matches outside the country.
@Mthulisiwendaba Moyo;
It seems like the president of Scotland is loaded, instead of splashing money to other clubs why don’t invest on building his own stadium that fifa and caf may approve
@Nigel Chapfudza;
Saka Scotland yatotenga league hokay zvima bhora muboora zvemuZimbabwe
@Nduduzo Vinny;
This is a boozers league. Yesterday Scott donated to an opposition player as well. Meanwhile ZIFA and PSL are quiet.
@Timothy Clever;
This guy loves his football. He is helping a fellow brother for the betterment of Zimbabwe football. If we can have three guys like Scott owning clubs in Zimbabwe with this kind gesture I am sure Zimbabwe football will rise to greater heights. Thank you Scott
