Security Guard Burned to Death While Sleeping in a Parked Kombi
A tragic accident has claimed the life of a security guard in Harare after the vehicle he was sleeping in went up in flames.
Police say 39-year-old Francis Jeimani Mlambo had sought shelter inside a commuter omnibus at Gazaland in Machipisa, Highfield, on Monday, 11 August 2025. While he slept, a sudden blaze engulfed the kombi, leaving him trapped inside. The fire also destroyed six nearby scrap vehicles.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, adding that investigations are underway to determine what sparked the fire.
“The ZRP is investigating a fire incident which resulted in the death of a security guard, Francis Jeimani Mlambo (39) on August 11, 2025, at Gazaland, Machipisa, Highfield, Harare,” said Nyathi.
“The fire engulfed a kombi in which the victim was taking shelter and destroyed six other scrap vehicles.”

Two Separate Murder Arrests in Harare on the Same Day
On the same day as the tragic fire, Harare police dealt with two murder cases in different suburbs.
In Mabelreign, a domestic dispute turned deadly when 27-year-old Tinashe Turamai allegedly stabbed his wife, 21-year-old Marita Nyamunda, in the stomach and neck with a kitchen knife. Police say he accused her of having an affair before the attack.
Meanwhile, in Kuwadzana 5, a suspected house break-in ended in violence. Officers arrested 42-year-old Bigboy Majenje after he allegedly broke into the home of 58-year-old Amos Pearson. Police say Pearson confronted the intruder, leading to a fight in which Pearson was fatally injured.
