Seke Road Accident: Police Provide Full Details After 17 Die in Horrific Crash
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has shared more details about the tragic road accident that claimed 17 lives at Hunyani Bridge along Seke Road in Chitungwiza. The deadly crash happened on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, after a haulage truck collided with a commuter omnibus (kombi).
What Caused the Seke Road Accident?
In a statement released the same day, police confirmed that 17 people died in the accident. Explaining how it happened, ZRP said the haulage truck was travelling towards Harare with two people on board when the driver lost control and veered into oncoming traffic.
Before the head-on collision, the truck first struck two pedestrians who were walking on the island between lanes, killing them instantly. The truck then crashed head-on into a Nissan Caravan kombi carrying 17 people towards Chitungwiza.
The police said:
“Reference is made to a post on the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s official X handle regarding a fatal road accident involving a haulage truck and a kombi which occurred this morning at Hunyani Bridge along Seke Road, Chitungwiza. The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that t7 people died after a haulage truck travelling towards the Harare Central Business District with two occupants on board lost control and veered onto the oncoming lane. The truck hit two pedestrians who were walking on the island of the road. The pedestrians died on the spot. The truck went on to collide, head-on, with a Nissan Caravan kombi travelling in the opposite direction towards Chitungwiza with 17 passengers on board.”

Seke Road Crash Casualties and Injuries Confirmed
The impact was devastating. The truck dragged the kombi off the road, overturned, and landed on top of it, completely crushing the smaller vehicle. This resulted in the death of 15 people inside the kombi, including the driver.
Only four people survived the crash, three from the kombi and one from the truck, but they sustained injuries and were taken to Chitungwiza Hospital. In total, 10 women and 7 men lost their lives in the horrific crash.
The ZRP added:
“As a result of the collision, the truck dragged the Nissan Caravan kombi off the road and overturned. It then landed on top of the kombi and in the process trapping it. Subsequently, 15 occupants who were in the kombi, including the driver, died on the spot, while four others (three from the kombi and one from the truck) were injured. The victims comprise 10 females and seven males. The bodies of the victims were taken to Chitungwiza Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured were referred to the same institution for treatment. More details will be released in due course.”
