Tagwirei Divides Zanu PF As Chinamasa Rubbishes Mutsvangwa’s Remarks About Central Committee, Says He Was Approved Already

Tagwirei Sparks Rift In Zanu PF As Chinamasa Slams Mutsvangwa’s Claims

A fresh row has erupted inside Zanu PF over the controversial co-option of businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei into the Central Committee, as party legal affairs secretary Patrick Chinamasa openly contradicted party spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa’s assertion that the process was flawed and incomplete.

In a strongly worded statement on 3 August 2025 via his official X account, Chinamasa dismissed the controversy surrounding the tycoon’s co-option, calling it “much ado about nothing”.

“The Zanupf Department of Legal Affairs is relieved and takes note that the furore/controversy/confusion/wrangle/much ado about nothing/social media hype/misinformation/disinformation that surrounded Harare Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) cooption of Cde Kudakwashe Tagwirei into the Zanupf Central Committee is now over and irreversibly settled,” wrote Chinamasa.

Co-option Confirmed By Politburo

Chinamasa explained that Tagwirei’s co-option had followed due process, having been recommended by the Harare PCC on 31 March 2025, then tabled by National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha at the 384th Ordinary Session of the Politburo on 2 July 2025.

“There was no objection in the Politburo meeting to the recommendation by Harare Provincial Coordinating Committee,”
Chinamasa stated.

He revealed that the decision was subsequently confirmed at the 385th Ordinary Session of the Politburo on 30 July 2025, chaired by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

“Confirmed without amendment on page 22 of the Politburo Minutes was Item 7.1.7… In this regard, Cde Kudakwashe Tagwireyi was co-opted by Harare Province and is now a Central Committee Member,”
he wrote.

Chinamasa Takes Aim At Critics

Chinamasa, a long-serving Central Committee and Politburo member, appeared baffled by the resistance within the party ranks.

“It was difficult to understand the source of the problem… The cooption of Cde Tagwirei is the first ever to be the subject of discussion and social media commentaries,”
he said.

“Throughout this long period of nearly 38 years… we have never had to debate, let alone discuss, PCC recommendations of cooptions into the Central Committee. We always treated such recommendations as fait accompli.”

He hinted that some in the party may have personal motives behind their opposition:

“The only explanation why the Tagwirei cooption has attracted such controversy may be because there are people out there who, for reasons best known to themselves, have an axe to grind.”

More Names To Be Tabled

Alongside Tagwirei, four other names were approved for co-option: Polite Kambamura, Christine Gwati, Joseph Serima (all from Mashonaland West), and Collen Ndebele from Matabeleland North. These will be presented for adoption at the next Central Committee meeting.

Chinamasa concluded his post with a veiled message to critics:

“Those with eyes, let them ‘eye’, and those with ears, let them ‘ear’. Nokuti hatigoni kurega kutaura izvo takaona neizvo takanzwa (Because we cannot stop speaking about what we saw and heard).”
