Western Cape Police Commissioner Tembisile Patekile said that he would stop at nothing to find the gunmen who shot and wounded 14 people in the Vlei informal settlement near Athlone.
Wednesday night’s gun violence comes as the newly established community has been ravaged by gang wars over the past few weeks.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Makhaza Police Station in Khayelitsha on Thursday, Patekile said the suspects also engaged in a shootout with the police.
“I have directed that those people must be found dead or alive. There’s no way that we are going to tolerate where gangsters just shoot at the police like it’s nothing. Those people were doing their job there, those police men were doing their job there. We are going to be asking the municipality as well for proper lighting.”
