Truck Driver Faces Culpable Homicide Charge After Seke Road Crash That Claimed 17 Lives
The driver of the haulage truck involved in the devastating Seke Road accident that left 17 people dead has reportedly been charged.
He is now facing a charge of culpable homicide and is expected to appear in court soon.
Tragedy on Seke Road: 17 Lives Lost in Haulage Truck and Kombi Collision
The horrific road traffic accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 22 July 2025, at Hunyani Bridge near Water Works along Seke Road. According to a statement by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the crash involved a 30-tonne haulage truck and a Nissan Caravan commuter omnibus.
The truck was reportedly travelling toward Harare with two occupants on board when the driver lost control, veered off course, and entered the opposite lane.

Two Pedestrians Killed Before Head-On Collision with Kombi
Before the truck slammed into the kombi, it struck two pedestrians who were walking along the island separating the lanes, killing them on the spot.
Moments later, it collided head-on with the commuter omnibus, which was ferrying passengers from Harare toward Chitungwiza.
Kombi Crushed Under Haulage Truck After Impact
The impact of the crash was devastating. Eyewitnesses described a horrifying scene as the truck dragged the kombi off the road, overturned, and landed on top of it, crushing the smaller vehicle completely. The remains of the kombi were left mangled and wedged beneath the massive truck.
Fifteen people from the kombi, including its driver, died at the scene. In total, 17 people lost their lives, among them 10 women and 7 men.
Survivors and Legal Proceedings
Only four individuals survived the tragic incident—three passengers from the kombi and one occupant of the truck. All sustained injuries and were rushed to Chitungwiza Hospital for treatment.
