Tsitsi Masiyiwa Shares 7 Marriage Lessons on 35th Anniversary with Strive
Tsitsi Masiyiwa, wife of Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa, has opened up about the secrets behind their long-lasting marriage as the couple celebrates 35 years as husband and wife.
Strive and Tsitsi marked their 35th wedding anniversary on Monday, 18 August 2025. Tsitsi took to LinkedIn to reflect on their journey, sharing that they met in 1985, became close friends, and only started dating in 1988 before tying the knot on 18 August 1990. She described her husband as her “best friend” even after three and a half decades together.
“𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟯𝟱 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 & 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽. We met in 1985, fell in love in 1988, and said “yes” on August 18, 1990. Today, 35 years later, he’s still my best friend,” Tsitsi Masiyiwa said.
The Secret to Their Compatibility
Masiyiwa highlighted that both she and Strive are highly driven and ambitious, which can sometimes create tension. Over the years, however, they have learned that laughter and a sense of humour help ease the pressure and keep their relationship strong.
“Both of us are driven, high achievers. That can create sparks – sometimes of brilliance, sometimes of tension. Over time, we’ve learnt that laughter is the best release valve, and a sense of humour keeps the journey lighter,” she added.
Tsitsi Masiyiwa Shares 7 Lessons As She Celebrates 35 Years of Marriage
She also shared seven key lessons from her 35 years of marriage, promising to elaborate further in her upcoming podcast:
“Marriage, much like leadership, is a long-term commitment. Here are a few lessons I have learnt along the way:
1️⃣ Take life one day at a time.
2️⃣ Set boundaries before day one and honour those agreements.
3️⃣ Apologise. Forgive. Repeat. These are lifelong companions.
4️⃣ Stay in your lane, but don’t hesitate to speak up when you’re off course.
5️⃣ Maintain your physical health together; it fuels the journey.
6️⃣ Laugh often, humour is the best tension-easer.
7️⃣ Have fun and enjoy life, even when you’re alone!
There’s so much more I could share (and will in my upcoming podcast), but I’ll pause here for now. I would love to hear about one lesson YOU’VE learnt from a long-term relationship, marriage, or leadership journey?”
