Two People Accused Of Trafficking A Teen After Pimping Her Out

Two individuals faced Harare magistrates today following their arrest on serious charges involving the alleged trafficking of a minor for sexual exploitation.

Tariro Manyora (29) and Modester Phiri (19) appeared before Regional Magistrate Donald Ndirowei, where they were formally charged with child trafficking offences. The accused, who share a residence with the 14-year-old victim in Kuwadzana 3, were remanded in custody without entering a plea.

Court documents reveal disturbing details of how the suspects allegedly facilitated the exploitation of the young girl. According to prosecutors, the case involves a third suspect, Amos Mupugo, who remains at large and is believed to be the primary perpetrator.

How the Alleged Crime Unfolded

Investigators state the situation began when Mupugo, reportedly an ex-boyfriend of the victim’s older sister, initiated a romantic relationship with the underage girl without her family’s knowledge. The juvenile allegedly obtained Mupugo’s contact information from her sister’s phone and shared it with Manyora.

The prosecution alleges that last week, Manyora informed the teenager that Mupugo had arranged to meet her. Phiri allegedly provided clothing for the minor to wear to this encounter before both suspects escorted her to a meeting point where Mupugo was waiting.

Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation

Authorities report that following this meeting, the victim endured multiple sexual assaults before being abandoned after her sister intervened with phone calls demanding her return. Police are currently conducting a manhunt for Mupugo while forensic teams gather additional evidence.

Child protection advocates have expressed outrage over the case, calling for stricter enforcement of Zimbabwe’s anti-trafficking laws. The matter has been adjourned to allow for further police investigations, with both suspects remaining in custody.
