Victoria Falls bans knives, knobkerries and machetes as reports of violence rise in the resort town.
The measure aims to curb assaults, homicides, and property destruction in Zimbabwe’s premier tourist destination.
Emergency Security Measures Implemented In Victoria Falls
Chief Superintendent Sibulisiwe Sithole, Victoria Falls District Police Commander, announced the three-month prohibition under the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (MOPA). The restrictions take immediate effect and will remain until October 31, 2025.
“This necessary action responds to escalating violent crimes that threaten public safety,” stated Chief Supt Sithole. “The law empowers us to restrict weapons contributing to murders, physical attacks, and willful destruction of property.”

- Traditional arms (knobkerries, catapults)
- Any object deemed hazardous by authorities
Violators face severe consequences, including six-month jail terms, substantial fines, or both penalties combined. Police units have intensified street patrols and random searches to ensure compliance.
Community Cooperation Urged
Law enforcement officials call for public support as they work to restore tranquillity to the internationally renowned resort town. The security initiative extends beyond city limits to the surrounding areas, including Jambezi and Kazungula.
