Warriors’ World Cup Qualifiers Against Benin and Rwanda: Dates and Venues Announced
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has revealed the details for the Warriors’ next two 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Group C matches.
Zimbabwe World Cup Qualifiers Against Benin and Rwanda: Dates and Venues Announced
Zimbabwe will face Benin on 5 September 2025 at a neutral venue in Abidjan, the Ivory Coast. The game will take place at Alassane Ouattara Stadium, the same venue that hosted the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final between the Ivory Coast and Nigeria, after Benin failed to secure an approved home stadium.
Just four days later, on 9 September, the Warriors will “host” Rwanda at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg for their Matchday Eight clash.
Slim Chances, But Fighting Spirit
Zimbabwe’s hopes of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup are slim. The Warriors sit bottom of Group C with four points, nine behind leaders South Africa, with only four matches remaining.
Despite their position, recent performances have shown resilience and fight.
In March, Zimbabwe staged a remarkable comeback against Benin. Trailing 2-0, goals from Marshal Munetsi and veteran striker Knowledge Musona salvaged a 2-2 draw, showcasing the team’s determination.
The Warriors also earned a crucial point against Nigeria in Uyo. After Victor Osimhen put the Super Eagles ahead in the 74th minute, Tawanda Chirewa stunned the home crowd with a late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw.
With four games left, Zimbabwe needs nothing short of a miracle to qualify. But recent performances hint that the Warriors are not ready to give up.
Their next test against Rwanda will be critical. If the team can replicate the spirit shown in March and against Nigeria, they might still keep their faint World Cup dream alive.
