Wedza Uncle And Niece Jailed For 15 Years For Setting Up 15-Year-Old Girl For R_ape

In some alarming news, a 28-year-old uncle and his niece (20) were sentenced to 15 years in prison each at Marondera Magistrates’ Court after they were found guilty of r_ape and setting up a neighbour for r_ape, respectively.

The woman charged that she set up her 15-year-old neighbour to be r_aped by her uncle.

Events that led to the arrest of the uncle and niece

In Wedza, on the 27th of January 2024, the niece approached the complainant, pretending that she wanted to sleep over at the girl’s house. The second accused gave the excuse that her grandmother was not around and she was afraid to sleep alone.

After the complainant agreed, the second accused asked her to accompany her back home as she had forgotten her phone. The two entered the thatched kitchen when they got to the accused’s compound; that is when the uncle closed the door and stood, blocking the exit.

The first accused tripped the minor from behind her and caused her to fall. The first accused person then forcibly r_aped the minor once while his niece watched the ordeal. The two then ordered the young girl to return home and shut her mouth. She was threatened to be killed if she ever told anyone about what happened.

The arrest and sentencing of uncle and niece for r_ape

The complainant returned home and kept her mouth shut as her parents were not around, and she was with her younger siblings at home. However, the complainant shared her ordeal with her aunt on the 3rd of February 2024. The aunt reported the matter to the police, which led to the arrest of the two accused.

The niece and uncle were tried before the Marondera Magistrates’ Court till they were found guilty today and sentenced to 15 years each for their part in the ordeal.
