Impatient woman narrowly cheats death after overtaking at railway crossing – with 3 kids in her car
A mother driving with her three children escaped death in Bulawayo on Friday morning after her car was struck by a train at a railway crossing in Mahatshula North.
According to witnesses, the woman overtook vehicles that had stopped to give way to the oncoming train. Her old model Mercedes-Benz was clipped on the rear left side, leaving her shaken but alive.
The incident, which occurred on 22 August 2025, was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, sparking outrage among users.
Train slams into car
Online publication ZimLive reported the shocking scene.
“A mum driving her 3 kids had a lucky escape this morning after her Mercedes was hit by a train at a rail crossing in Mahatshula North, Bulawayo. Witnesses said she overtook vehicles that had stopped to give way to the train. The train slammed into the rear left side of the car,”

Social media users were quick to react with disbelief.
Social media erupts
One user, who goes by the name Big Badge (@runnerzim), criticised the driver harshly, saying:
“Woman drives an old model Mercedes and thinks her IQ is higher than everyone.”
Another, posting as ras_ta (@rassieilimitles), said:
“She actually thought those who were giving way are stupid. Serves her right.”
Others echoed the anger, calling for legal action. mudimu (@Silvernos3) wrote:
“She is so stupid the law must punish her.”
While NdokubasakweduPvtLtd (@ChipoShumirai) demanded tough measures:
“She should not drive again. @PoliceZimbabwe and NRZ please make your case.”
Calls for accountability
A significant number of commentators focused on the risk to the children. Remy Shava (@RRemiemusa) wrote:
“A fool will always throw caution to the wind putting innocent kids’ lives at risk. There is nothing that beats adhering to road rules.”
“The mother may be stupid but this shows how the rail system has collapsed. A rail crossing should have automatic booms! One would never entertain the thought of attempting to cross if the barriers are down.”
Despite the public outcry, there were no reports of injuries from the crash. The mother and her children were reportedly unharmed.
