Zesa To Replace Old Prepaid Meters With New Upgrades
ZESA has announced plans to phase out old prepaid electricity meters nationwide. The utility company states that the move is part of its effort to enhance efficiency and provide customers with more precise information on their energy usage.
Meter change process
In a notice to residents of Norton, ZESA explained how the replacement would be carried out. The company stated that authorised technicians will conduct the work.
ZESA said:
“Our authorised technician will visit your premises to install the new prepaid meters. The installation process typically takes about 15 minutes and you may experience a brief interruption in your energy supply.”
The company added that customers will be given full instructions on how to use the new devices.
Why the change is happening
The power utility explained that the old prepaid meters have reached the end of their lifespan. Replacing them is seen as a necessary step to avoid faults and disruptions.
ZESA stated:
“The old prepaid meters have reached end of life hence the need to install new prepaid meters which will provide you with more accurate and detailed information about your energy usage, enabling you to better manage your energy consumption and reduce your bills or consumption.”
The organisation said the new meters are designed to give customers better insight into their electricity use, making it easier to track and plan.
What customers need to do
The notice urged customers to make sure technicians can access the meter location. Residents have been asked to remain available when installations are scheduled.
ZESA said:
“Ensure that you are available during the schedule acceleration time. Provide access to the meter location, features and functionality.”
Customers with queries have been encouraged to contact ZESA through its customer service numbers and email. The utility said feedback would help them improve the process.
