According to eyewitnesses, Kadewere poked Mangunda in the chest, and threatened to assault her in front of stunned teammates and officials. He reportedly hurled insults at her.

The France-based striker accused Mangunda of writing negative stories about his form and questioning his continued selection for the Warriors squad.

ZIFA Issues Strong Condemnation

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) issued a statement strongly condemning Kadewere’s actions, calling them “unacceptable and unbecoming of a national team player.”

The Zimbabwe Football Association notes with deep regret the incident that occurred at Orlando Stadium during the Warriors media open training session, involving national team player Tinotenda Kadewere and journalist Yvonne Mangunda. ZIFA strongly condemns any form of abuse towards the media. Journalists are a vital part of the game, and we are committed to ensuring they carry out their duties without fear or intimidation,” read part of the statement.

Apology and Disciplinary Measures

ZIFA confirmed that Kadewere has since apologised to Mangunda and that an amicable understanding between the two parties has been reached.

“The player has apologised to Ms Mangunda, and an amicable understanding between the two parties has been reached. The matter is being addressed through the appropriate disciplinary processes by both the team management and the Association.”

However, the association stressed that the matter will still be addressed through the appropriate disciplinary processes by both the team management and ZIFA itself.

We take full responsibility for upholding the highest standards of conduct within our teams and reaffirm our commitment to respectful engagement with all stakeholders,” ZIFA added.
