ZIFA Suspends Referee Rusununguko Mutero for Six Match Days
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has suspended referee Rusununguko Mutero from officiating in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) for six match days, following a review of his performance in a recent fixture.

Suspension Announced by ZIFA
In a statement, ZIFA confirmed that Mutero will not officiate from matchday 24 to matchday 29 of the 2025 PSL season.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association wishes to inform all stakeholders, media, and the football fraternity that referee Rusununguko Mutero has been suspended from officiating in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) for a period of six (6) match days, covering matchday 24 to matchday 29 of the 2025 season,” reads pastatement read.
The disciplinary measure comes after his performance in the clash between Green Fuel FC and FC Platinum on 26 July 2025 at Green Fuel Arena was deemed unsatisfactory.
Refereeing Fell Short of Standards
According to the Match Commissioner’s report, Mutero’s officiating failed to meet the required standards, breaching paragraph 21 of the Referees’ Code of Conduct.
This prompted the governing body to act, emphasizing the need for consistency and fairness in Zimbabwean football.
ZIFA Reaffirms Commitment to Integrity
The association stressed that it is dedicated to safeguarding the credibility of local football by ensuring referees meet the required standards
“The Zimbabwe Football Association remains committed to upholding the highest standards of refereeing, fairness, and integrity in the game. Continuous monitoring and accountability measures are in place to ensure that match officials maintain professionalism and consistency in their duties,” the statement read.
Accountability in the PSL
ZIFA’s move is seen as part of a broader effort to restore confidence in match officiating, with increased scrutiny on referees to avoid errors that could undermine the credibility of the league.
