Zimbabwe Government Bans Holiday Lessons for 2025 Academic Year

The Zimbabwe government bans holiday lessons in schools for the 2025 academic year in a circular that is being sent to schools.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has instituted a comprehensive prohibition on all holiday academic programs during the 2025 school vacation period.

The Ministry has warned schools and teachers who break this rule that there will be consequences to violating this ban.

Strict Enforcement Measures Announced

Education officials have issued firm warnings about the consequences for institutions that violate this policy. A formal directive circulated to regional education coordinators and school administrators emphasises zero tolerance for non-compliance.

In a statement made to the public and media, Permanent Secretary Moses Mhike stated,

“The ministry maintains its position that organized academic activities during holiday periods contravene established educational guidelines. This practice remains strictly prohibited without exception.”

Government Bans Holiday Lessons Nationwide

The policy change affects all educational institutions nationwide, including government-operated schools, private learning institutions and faith-based educational centres. No school is an exception from the ban. Parents are being warned that they should not pay for holiday lessons for their children,

Mhike further emphasized, “School administrators must ensure complete adherence to this directive. Appropriate sanctions will be applied to those found violating these regulations.”

Policy Rationale and Implementation

Education experts suggest this measure serves multiple purposes including ensuring adequate rest periods for educators and students.

The Ministry has announced that they want to maintain standardised academic calendars as well as preserve the integrity of the national curriculum framework.
