Zimbabwean Sangoma and Three Others Arrested in Botswana

A Zimbabwean traditional healer has landed in serious trouble after being arrested in Botswana over a murder case. The Botswana Police Service confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday, 18 July 2025.

The suspect, 50-year-old Zimbabwean sangoma Stella Sibanda, was arrested alongside three others — 45-year-old Motswana woman Malebogo Segola, 42-year-old Alfred Gaseltslwe from Molepolole Village, and 22-year-old Zimbabwean man Maxwell Lucky Chirinda.

The four suspects appeared before the Broadhurst Magistrate’s Court on Friday, facing a single charge of murder. Police said in their statement that the four suspects were brought to court for allegedly working together to kill a Motswana man.

Part of the statement reads:

“Two women, a Zimbabwean woman who is a traditional healer, Stella Sibanda, aged 50, a Motswana woman, Malebogo Segola, aged 45, of Molepolole Village and two other men, Alfred Gaseltslwe, aged 42 of Molepolole Village, and a Zimbabwean Male, Maxwell Lucky Chirinda, aged 22, were today (18/07/2025) arraigned before Broadhurst Magistrate court on a single Count of Murder.”

The police said all four suspects have been remanded in custody until their next court appearance on 12 August 2025.

Police Outline the Allegations

According to investigators, the group allegedly murdered 58-year-old Timothy Segola, a Motswana man, at Rahutshe lands near Gakutlo on 5 June 2025. Authorities have not revealed the motive behind the killing.

“According to the charge sheet, the quartet on or about 5th June 2025 at or near Rahutshe lands in Gakutlo, acted jointly with a common purpose and murdered a Motswana man, Timothy Segola, aged 58, at Rahutshe Lands, near Gakutlo. The accused have been remanded in prison and will reappear on the 12th August 2025,” the statement further reads.
