Zimbabwean Truck Driver Arrested In DRC After Causing Fatal Accident

A Zimbabwean truck driver has been arrested in DRC after he is believed to have caused a fatal accident that claimed the lives of a number of people.

Truck driver Jeremiah Kamuterera, employed by SMI Bulk Transport based in South Africa, finds himself detained by authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) following a devastating accident during his journey to Mokambo.

The accident that led to the truck driver’s arrest

Jeremiah Kamuterera, aged 37 and originally from Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West province, was reportedly involved in a tragic collision resulting in the loss of 18 lives and severe injuries to six others.

Current Situation and repercussions after the accident

Since the accident, Kamuterera has been confronting his ordeal alone in a foreign country, with purportedly minimal support from his employers. Immediate financial aid is being sought to facilitate his release. What really caused the accident has not yet been revealed, and who the fault lay with is yet to be investigated.

Efforts to gather comprehensive details about the incident have been hindered despite attempts to verify information through acquaintances. Kamuterera is believed to be held at Mokambo Police Station, though the specifics of his legal status remain uncertain.

Another fatal accident that recently occurred

During this Easter holiday, another fatal accident occurred in South Africa, killing a lot of Easter pilgrims.  The bus, which was carrying over forty church congregants, crushed into a bridge at a mountain pass.

The crash led to the death of forty-five people and had only one survivor, who is an 8-year-old girl. The victims were said to be coming from Botswana for a church gathering in Limpopo province, where they were gathering for the first time ever since the COVID-19 pandemic.
