Outrage After Chitungwiza Municipality Offers Temporary Water Supply as Funeral Support Following Seke Accident
Zimbabweans have taken to social media to express outrage after the Municipality of Chitungwiza pledged to support funeral arrangements for 17 crash victims by dedicating water supply to affected suburbs for two days.
The announcement triggered widespread criticism and disbelief over what many viewed as an inappropriate and tone-deaf response to a national tragedy.

“We Have Dedicated Water Supply for Two Days” – Council Statement
In a post on Facebook, the Municipality of Chitungwiza announced it would “support funeral arrangements” for the 17 people who died in a horrific Seke Road accident by dedicating water supply to St. Mary’s and Manyame suburbs on July 23 and 24.
“Water Supply Update
To support funeral arrangements in St. Mary’s and Manyame suburbs, we have dedicated water supply to these areas for two days—July 23 and 24 July 2025. This is part of our efforts to ensure communities are able to mourn their loved ones with dignity,” reads the post.

However, instead of praise, the post triggered an avalanche of angry comments, with many residents accusing the council of normalising poor service delivery and mocking the grieving families.
