Good news for Zimbabweans as they are set to pay less for LPG with ZERA adjusting August prices to lower rates.
Consumers will benefit from lower rates in both US dollars and Zimbabwean currency, providing relief amid current economic conditions.
New Pricing Structure Details
According to the latest regulatory update, the revised LPG price now stands at US$1.51 per kilogram, representing a decrease from the previous US$1.57 rate. In local currency terms, the price adjustment brings costs down to ZWG40.56 per kg from ZWG42.31.
“These updated LPG prices reflect our commitment to fair energy pricing in accordance with the Petroleum (Liquid Petroleum Gas Pricing) Regulations established in 2021,” stated ZERA officials.

The authority emphasised that all retail operators must prominently display the new pricing at their outlets.
Market Flexibility and Compliance
While setting these benchmark prices, ZERA noted that retailers maintaining competitive advantages may offer even lower rates to consumers. This pricing flexibility aims to encourage market competition while protecting consumer interests.
Recent data from ZERA’s 2024 Annual Performance Report reveals significant growth in LPG consumption, reaching 77 million kilograms last year. The sector now boasts 622 licensed retail outlets, achieving an impressive 93.7% compliance rate with regulatory standards.
Ongoing Challenges and Safety Concerns
Despite progress in formalizing the LPG market, ZERA continues to address challenges including illegal vending activities. The regulator credits improved compliance to its crackdown on smuggled gas cylinders but acknowledges more work remains.

ZERA also issued renewed safety warnings following increased accidents related to improper gas handling. The authority calls for enhanced training programs for operators and public awareness campaigns to promote safe LPG usage nationwide.
Consumers are advised to purchase LPG only from licensed dealers and verify that all gas equipment meets safety standards before use.
