ZRP Releases Names Of 21 Victims Who Died In 3 Horrific Accidents In 3 Days

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has released the list of names of the 21 individuals who lost their lives in three separate, devastating road accidents over three consecutive days. The tragic collisions occurred in Mutare, Juru, and Masvingo, leaving communities across the nation in mourning.

The police force formally identified the victims after their next of kin were notified. The list includes men, women, and young children. The ZRP has extended its deepest sympathies to all those affected by the unimaginable losses.

A Community Shattered In Mutare

The first tragedy struck on Wednesday, 28th August 2025, on the Mutare-Masvingo Road. Six adults from the local community perished at the 46-kilometre peg.

The victims from this accident were:

  • Godfrey Chikosi (45), a male adult of Rowa East, Zimunya, Mutare

  • Vincent Museza (32), a male adult of Rowa East, Zimunya, Mutare

  • Patience Musabayana (30), a female adult of Mafuke Village, Zimunya, Mutare

  • Melissa Chigonde (22), a female adult of Zindi, Honde Valley

  • Anna Mudzingwa, a female adult of Rowa East, Zimunya, Mutare

  • Maybe Mundondo, a female adult of Rowa East, Zimunya, Mutare

A Family Tragedy Unfolds In Juru

The following day, Thursday, 29th August, brought even more sorrow. A horrific accident on the Harare-Nyamapanda Road at the 49-kilometre peg in Juru resulted in seven fatalities from the same family. The victims included an entire young family. Commissioner Nyathi’s statement revealed the devastating toll.

“The victims were identified by their next of kin as follows:- Sunday Stenlodge (23), a male adult of Binga Village, Domboshava, Fadzai Kamurai (25), a female adult of Parirewa Village, Domboshava, Lin Nyamhunga a female infant aged four of Parirewa Village, Domboshava, Nyasha Nyamhunga a male infant aged six months of Parirewa Village, Domboshava.”

The full list of victims from the Juru accident is:

  • Sunday Stenlodge (23), a male adult of Binga Village, Domboshava

  • Fadzai Kamurai (25), a female adult of Parirewa Village, Domboshava

  • Lin Nyamhunga, a female infant aged four of Parirewa Village, Domboshava

  • Nyasha Nyamhunga, a male infant aged six months of Parirewa Village, Domboshava

  • Matilda Dzangu (28), a female adult of Parirewa Village, Domboshava

  • Kersey Matangaidza, a female infant aged two of Kuwadzana 5, Harare

  • Tariro Matangaidza, a female juvenile aged 15 of Kuwadzana 5, Harare

Eight Lives Lost On Masvingo Road

The third catastrophic event happened on Friday, 30th August 2025, further along the Mutare-Masvingo Road at the 246-kilometre peg in Masvingo. Eight people died in this incident. The ZRP released the names of the deceased, who were all adults from the Mutare and Masvingo regions.

The victims in the Masvingo accident were:

  • Moses Nyazika (47), a male adult of Mutare

  • Tamari Nyakabau (39), a female adult of Link Road, Mutare

  • Juliet Mabika (33), a female adult of Nyanyadzi

  • Happymore Mhuka (37), a male adult of Chikanga, Mutare

  • Everson Chazvino (24), a male adult of ZIMTA, Mutare

  • Tafadzwa Jacopo (27), a female adult of ZIMTA, Mutare

  • Maybe Mazuwa (44), a female adult of Pangholin, Masvingo

  • Clever Murwei (46), a male adult of Chikanga, Mutare

A Plea For Road Safety

Concluding the sombre press release, the police force issued a direct and urgent appeal to the nation’s motorists. The statement served as a stark reminder of the critical importance of careful driving.

The Commissioner wrote,

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police extends deepest condolences to the families of the victims. We appeal to drivers to seriously consider road safety while moving on the country’s roads.”
