Zvishavane Mbaura Tragedy: Postmortem Confirms Cause of Death for Family of 5
The heartbreaking deaths of five family members in Gudhuza Village, Zvishavane, have been officially linked to carbon monoxide poisoning. A postmortem has confirmed that the victims, three adults and two children, died after inhaling toxic fumes from a brazier they were using to keep warm while sleeping on Sunday night.

Chief Masunda, who oversees the area, confirmed the cause of death and revealed the burial plans for the Simango and Ncube families. He said the brazier, commonly used in many rural homes during cold nights, was the source of the deadly carbon monoxide that silently claimed all five lives.
“The postmortem results indicate that the five died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a brazier used for warmth while sleeping on Sunday night,” said Chief Masunda.
Family Members Laid to Rest in Separate Districts
Chief Masunda also shared the burial arrangements. The bodies were collected from Nyaradzo and Doves funeral parlours and taken to their final resting places on Tuesday, 22 July 2025.

John Ncube (57) and Nigel Ncube (30) were taken to Shurugwi for burial.

Denzel Simango (15) was buried in Gutu.

Jeremiah Simango (42) and Jedire Simango (8) were buried on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, at 11 am in Guduza Village, Shiku, under Zvishavane District.
This tragedy has served as a sobering reminder of the hidden dangers of using braziers indoors, especially during winter. Community leaders have urged families to be extra cautious with heating methods to prevent similar incidents.
