In a significant move to enforce education regulations, the government has shut down 368 technical and vocational training centers across Zimbabwe. These institutions were found to be operating without necessary documentation, contravening the Manpower Planning and Development Act.
The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education conducted inspections, revealing widespread non-compliance. Institutions in several provinces were affected, with many issuing certificates that don’t meet industry standards.
Professor Fanuel Tagwira, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, highlighted the risks of unregistered colleges, including subpar education, financial strain on students, and unrecognizable qualifications.
The government’s crackdown aims to ensure access to quality and equitable education, protecting students and parents from fraudulent institutions.
