Family of Zimbabwean Man Killed by Ugandan Accuses SAPS of Cover-Up and Intimidation

A Zimbabwean man who was brutally killed in South Africa after a suspected love triangle involving a Ugandan man and a woman has been laid to rest in Mashava. But his grieving family says they are still in the dark about key details surrounding his death—and they’re demanding answers.

Emmanuel Muhamba was murdered on April 5 in Sandton, Johannesburg. According to reports, the fatal incident was sparked by a relationship dispute involving a Zimbabwean woman named Ntombizodwa, who was allegedly dating both Emmanuel and a Ugandan man. That man is accused of being behind the murder.

Police confirmed the case is being handled at Sandton Police Station under murder docket number 138/04/2025. The incident happened around 4:30 PM outside Mzanzi Building at the corner of 12th Avenue and Rivonia Road.

According to police, Emmanuel was struck twice by a Ford Ranger, which then ran over him multiple times. He leaves behind a wife and a child.

Now, Emmanuel’s brother is speaking out. He says the family is frustrated by what he believes is police reluctance to act—and that crucial evidence, including the victim’s clothes, has mysteriously gone missing.

“The police should be answerable because, from what I picked up when I talked to them, it seems they don’t want to arrest the suspect. The car which was used to kill him has not been impounded, and the person who was driving it is walking free. His clothes are missing, and they are acting like they don’t know the accused person. Why are they delaying? His body had no case number. Why is the Investigating Officer not arresting the driver who had the car?” he said.

He also questioned why the woman involved hasn’t been interrogated.

“On the day in question, reports are that they had an altercation. We just want justice, and why are all the guys who were at the scene not questioned? Why is the girlfriend not being arrested?” he said.

The family also suspects police may have tried to hide or tamper with the case docket.

“The body was identified, but they were trying to hide the docket. We went to the scene, the following day, the police gave us the wrong case number, 130 instead of 138. I then made a follow-up and got the correct docket.”

Alleged Threats from Police

He added that the victim’s clothing, standard evidence in such cases, has not been returned or shown to the family.

“The clothes he was wearing at the time cannot be found. We are demanding answers from them. On his death certificate, there was no case number of murder, there are many loopholes,” he added.

Making matters worse, the family claims a South African Police Service (SAPS) officer has been trying to silence them.

“We went to look for footage, and the police officer is threatening us not to circulate the details. He didn’t want it to be circulated, and he told us to keep the issue private. His businesses are working normally, and the girlfriend is still talking to the suspect. These two guys from Uganda, who were at the scene, are walking free,” he added.
