51-year-old Bikita Man Reported Goblin Attacks And Killed Himself

Police have confirmed the death of a 51-year-old man from Bikita in Masvingo Province after a tragic incident last week.

The deceased, Bvekwa Tinarwo, lived in Chief Mukangamwi’s area.

According to police, Tinarwo left home on July 25 at about 11 a.m. He told relatives he was heading to a nearby mountain to search for mobile network coverage.

However, he later sent a message to the family’s WhatsApp group. In the message, he said he wanted to end his life because he believed goblins were tormenting him whenever he slept.

After receiving the message, relatives and villagers immediately started searching for him. Sadly, they later found him deceased on the mountain.

Police officers attended the scene and said they do not suspect foul play. Meanwhile, Bikita Resident Magistrate Diana Masiirwa waived a post-mortem examination.

Police urge people to seek support

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident. He also encouraged people facing personal or emotional challenges to seek help.

“People should seek help whenever they are facing problems. Suicide should never be the option,” said Inspector Dhewa.

“We encourage those facing difficulties to seek assistance from family members, community leaders or relevant authorities.”
