Five Die In Harare-Nyamapanda Crash Hours After Three Killed On Gweru Road
Eight people were killed in two separate road traffic accidents reported just hours apart in Zimbabwe on Monday, 27 July 2026. Five people died in a head-on collision along the Harare-Nyamapanda Road, while another three lost their lives earlier the same day in a crash on the Gweru-Zvishavane Road, as police investigate both tragedies.
Harare-Nyamapanda Road Crash Leaves Five Dead And Nine Injured
The second and deadliest of the two crashes occurred at around 2:40 pm at the 101-kilometre peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda Road.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on July 27, 2026 at around 2:40 pm at the 101 km peg along the Harare–Nyamapanda Road.”
Commissioner Nyathi said two Isuzu D-Max vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.
“Five people were killed, while nine others sustained injuries when an Isuzu D-Max with one passenger on board was involved in a head-on collision with another Isuzu D-Max with 14 passengers on board.”
Police have not yet released the identities of the victims or the circumstances that led to the crash.
Earlier Gweru-Zvishavane Road Crash Claimed Three Lives
Hours before the Harare-Nyamapanda tragedy, another fatal accident claimed three lives at around 9:00 am along the Gweru-Zvishavane Road.
The Herald reports that the collision happened at the 80-kilometre peg and involved a Shacman truck and an AD Van.
Three people died in that crash. Police have not yet released further information about the victims or the cause of the accident.
Police Investigating Both Fatal Crashes
The two accidents claimed a combined eight lives within a matter of hours, making Monday one of the deadliest days on Zimbabwe’s roads in recent weeks.
Investigations into both crashes are continuing, with police expected to provide more details once inquiries have been completed.
