Speaking to The Chronicle, club insiders said the defender has made it clear that any new deal must include housing, emphasising that verbal assurances alone will not secure his signature.
“He is loyal to Highlanders, but he wants security. For him, the house is not a luxury, it’s a demonstration of the club’s commitment,” said an insider.
Mbeba has not been part of Highlanders’ pre-season preparations, a development that has intensified speculation around his next move.
