Highlanders Vice-Captain Andrew Mbeba Demands House in New Contract

Andrew Mbeba Refuses to Sign New Contract with Highlanders FC Without Housing Clause

Highlanders FC vice-captain Andrew Mbeba has refused to sign a new contract with the club unless a house is included in his signing-on package.

Pre-Season Absence Raises Questions

Speaking to The Chronicle, club insiders said the defender has made it clear that any new deal must include housing, emphasising that verbal assurances alone will not secure his signature.

He is loyal to Highlanders, but he wants security. For him, the house is not a luxury, it’s a demonstration of the club’s commitment,” said an insider.

Mbeba has not been part of Highlanders’ pre-season preparations, a development that has intensified speculation around his next move.

Loyalty Tested by Career Realities

Despite being a product of the club’s junior structures, Mbeba’s stance is said to reflect broader concerns about career stability, particularly in light of his recent fitness struggles.

Those close to the player maintain that his position should not be interpreted as a desire to leave the club, but rather as a push for long-term assurance in an uncertain phase of his career.

“He wants to stay, but only if his demands are met. He has drawn a line; no house, no signature. That’s his boundary,” the source added

Injury Complicates Transfer Options

Mbeba’s situation has been further complicated by a lingering knee injury that forced him to withdraw from the Warriors squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The injury is expected to require months of treatment, a factor that has reportedly cooled interest from both local and foreign clubs.

Bosso Hold Negotiating Advantage

While interest had previously been shown by several domestic rivals, the defender’s current fitness status has shifted leverage back towards Highlanders. For now, both sides remain locked in talks, with Mbeba understood to be unwilling to compromise on his core demand.
