Zimbabwe Launches Provincial Hotlines to Report Potholes and Road Defects
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has rolled out dedicated provincial hotlines to allow members of the public to report potholes and other urgent road defects, as authorities intensify efforts to improve road safety and maintain the national road network.
The initiative covers all provinces and applies to regional, primary, secondary and tertiary roads, enabling faster response to hazards that pose risks to motorists and pedestrians.
Public Called to Partner in Road Safety
In a statement, the ministry urged citizens to play an active role in keeping roads safe by promptly reporting dangerous defects.
“The Ministry calls on the public to become active partners in road maintenance by reporting potholes and urgent defects. Your vigilance is invaluable. Prompt reports enable faster response, efficient resource allocation, and prevent minor issues from becoming hazards. As articulated by His Excellency, the President, Cde Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa, our inclusive road efforts support the drive of leaving no one and no place behind.”
Members of the public are encouraged to submit clear photos or videos of defects, together with exact location details, to enable swift intervention.
Dedicated Provincial Engineers Assigned
Each province has a designated Provincial Roads Engineer responsible for receiving reports and coordinating urgent repairs. The decentralised approach is expected to improve accountability and speed up response times.
