InDrive Driver Accuses Thigh Vendor of Stealing His Car Keys and Money After Offering Her Shelter
An early morning encounter in Harare’s central business district ended in drama after an InDrive driver allegedly lost his car keys and cash following a dispute with a thigh vendor he had allowed into his vehicle.
The incident occurred at around 4am along Nelson Mandela Avenue while the driver was parked and waiting for customers.
Allegations of Extortion
Speaking to H-Metro, the driver, who declined to be named, said the woman approached his vehicle seeking shelter. He agreed to let her sit inside. At some point, he fell asleep.
When he later woke up, he discovered that his car keys were no longer in his possession. He claims the woman — identified as Miriam Mahove — initially denied having them but then demanded US$100 in exchange for their return.
With no keys and unable to move his vehicle, the driver said he was forced to call a locksmith, paying US$30 for a replacement set.
The confrontation reportedly attracted a crowd, with bystanders gathering as tensions escalated between the two.
“We Are Just Friends”
Speculation among onlookers suggested the woman had been hired for sex, something both parties denied.
The driver insisted he had not engaged her for sexual services and had merely offered her a place to sit.
Mahove, for her part, said the two were acquaintances and had planned to travel to her home in Belvedere before the keys went missing. She denied stealing them or demanding money.
Public Accusations
As the disagreement unfolded, some members of the public accused Mahove of attempting to extort the driver and targeting men leaving nearby nightclubs. She rejected those accusations.
The situation ended after the locksmith provided new keys, though the driver says he suffered financial losses from the missing cash and the replacement fee.
