Iran Confirms Supreme Leader Khamenei Dead After US And Israeli Strike
Iranian state media has confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, killed in a precision joint US and Israeli strike on his office in Tehran. The 86-year-old cleric was eliminated in the opening salvo of Operation Epic Fury, plunging the Middle East into war.
The Strike That Shook The World
US President Donald Trump took credit for the operation. “Intelligence and tracking systems monitored Khamenei’s whereabouts,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “There was not a thing he could do.”
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz was blunt. “Justice has been served, and the axis of evil has suffered a mortal blow,” Katz declared on X.
Iranian state media announced Khamenei’s death through tears.
“After a lifetime of Hosseini struggle, the Leader and Imam of the Muslims, His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, drank the sweet, pure drought of martyrdom and joined the Supreme Heavenly Kingdom.”
Military chief Abdolrahim Mousavi, top official Ali Shamkhani, and Guards commander Mohammed Pakpour were also killed. Iranian media reported that Khamenei’s daughter, grandchild, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law died in the attack.
Tehran’s Fury: Retaliation Rocks The Gulf
Within hours, Iran launched hundreds of missiles at Israel and Gulf states. In Tel Aviv, a residential building took a direct hit. “Emergency teams treated at least 20 people hurt by a missile,” Israel’s ambulance service confirmed.
Dubai International Airport was damaged. The Burj Al Arab hotel was hit. Four people were injured. In Abu Dhabi, falling debris killed one person and wounded seven at Zayed International Airport. Jebel Ali port was struck.
Qatar reported 16 people injured. Bahrain confirmed residential buildings hit and a base housing the US Fifth Fleet attacked. The Strait of Hormuz has been closed, sending shockwaves through global energy markets.
A Nation In Mourning And Chaos
Iran’s Red Crescent reported at least 201 killed and 747 wounded across 24 provinces. In Minab, a girls’ primary school was hit, killing at least 85 people.
Some Iranians took to the streets to celebrate. A terrified mother named Minou, 32, spoke from Tabriz. “We are scared, we are terrified,” she said, weeping. “My children are shaking, we have nowhere to go, we will die here.”
The World Reacts
UN chief Antonio Guterres called for a halt to hostilities. Russia accused the US and Israel of stabbing Iran in the back.
Trump was defiant. “This will be probably your only chance for generations,” he told the Iranian people.
With the Supreme Leader dead and missiles flying, the Islamic Republic faces a power vacuum not seen since 1979.
