President’s Office Warns Public of Scammers Impersonating VP Chiwenga and His Wife
The Office of the President and Cabinet has sounded the alarm over a growing scam in which criminals are posing as Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his wife, Miniyothabo Baloyi Chiwenga, to deceive unsuspecting victims.
Officials say the scheme is targeting both Zimbabweans and people outside the country, with scammers attempting to exploit the Vice President’s name for financial gain.

Scammers Using International Contacts
Presidential Communications Deputy Chief Secretary George Charamba revealed that the fraudsters are operating through foreign-registered phone numbers, particularly from South Africa and Nigeria.
The suspects reportedly initiate contact while pretending to be linked to the Vice President’s office, before attempting to solicit money, services, or sensitive personal details from their targets.
Fake Social Media Presence Dismissed
Authorities have also dismissed the existence of any official social media accounts belonging to the Vice President or his spouse on X (formerly Twitter).
Members of the public are being cautioned against trusting or engaging with accounts claiming to represent the couple, as these are part of the broader impersonation scheme.
Call for Vigilance and Verification
The government has urged citizens to exercise caution and confirm the authenticity of any communication claiming to originate from the Vice President’s office.
Officials stressed that legitimate messages are only issued through recognised government channels handled by authorised personnel.
Regional Efforts to Track Culprits
Investigations into the scam are now underway, with Zimbabwean authorities collaborating with telecommunications regulators in South Africa and Nigeria to trace those responsible.
The move is part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on cross-border fraud and protect the public from increasingly sophisticated scams.
