‘God is never late’: Zenande Mfenyana celebrates first SAFTA award

South African actress Zenande Mfenyana is celebrating a deeply emotional career milestone. After 19 years in the industry, she finally won her first SAFTA award. The breakthrough moment arrived at the SAFTAs19 ceremony and left her full of gratitude. Soon after, Zenande shared an emotional Instagram post reflecting on the victory. She said she needed time to absorb what the achievement truly meant.

For her, the award represents more than personal success. It also reflects her journey, her career, and her family’s sacrifices. Moreover, she described the moment as a powerful sign of God’s timing. She referenced Isaiah 60:22 and declared that God is never late. Instead, she said, He always arrives right on time.

A Victory 19 Years in the Making

Zenande’s first SAFTA did not come overnight. Rather, it followed nearly two decades of persistence, patience, and consistent hard work. That long journey makes this recognition even more meaningful. For many actors, staying relevant for 19 years is already an achievement. However, winning a first major award after that wait feels especially significant.

Zenande embraced that truth with humility and joy. She thanked the SAFTAs for recognising her work at last.
At the same time, she also thanked Mzansi Magic, calling them family. Clearly, the award marked both a personal and professional triumph.

Bringing Thumeka to Life

Zenande also reflected on her role as Thumeka with obvious pride. She said she loved every moment of playing the character. Furthermore, she thanked the creators behind the story for trusting her. She praised the woman’s story as one that needed to be told. That statement highlighted her deep connection to the role. It also showed how seriously she approached the performance. Through Thumeka, Zenande gave audiences emotion, depth, and authenticity. As a result, viewers connected strongly with the character’s journey.

Gratitude for the Team and Fans

Even in victory, Zenande made sure to honour those around her. She thanked the hardworking crew and called them everything. Then she celebrated her close collaborators who helped shape Thumeka’s world. According to her, there is no “Thum Thum” without them. Finally, she turned to the show’s loyal supporters with heartfelt appreciation.

She thanked them for tuning in every night from day one. Their love for Inimba clearly made the journey even sweeter. Now, with her first SAFTA secured, Zenande’s light is shining even brighter.
