Mother Ignores Four-Year-Old’s Rape Plea After Stepfather Strikes In Same Bed

A Mutorashanga man has been sentenced to two decades behind bars for the brutal rape of his four-year-old stepdaughter, a crime that unfolded while the child’s mother lay asleep just inches away on the same bed. In a harrowing twist, the young victim’s cries for help were initially dismissed by her own mother before justice finally intervened.

Lovemore Kondo, 27, of Plot 2 Doonside Farm in Mutorashanga, stood before Chinhoyi regional magistrate Amos Mbobo, where the full weight of his betrayal was laid bare. The court heard how the man exploited the most vulnerable moment of the night, violating the trust of a sleeping household.

The Night Of Terror On Doonside Farm

According to prosecutor Jeffrey Makoni, the horrific incident occurred on a date in December last year. The court was told that the minor was sharing a single bed with her mother and Kondo, with the convict sleeping between the two.

In the dead of night, Kondo woke the juvenile and told her that he wanted to put his fingers into her private parts. He instructed her not to cry out. When the child naturally began to weep during the assault, he silenced her by clamping his hand over her mouth.

“On a date unknown to the prosecutor, but in the month of December last year, the minor shared a room with her mother and Kondo. Kondo slept between the minor and her mother. He woke up during the night and told the juvenile that he wanted to put his fingers into her private parts and told her not to cry.”

The court further documented that when the young victim tried to cry, her abuser physically prevented it.

A Mother’s Silence And A Grandmother’s Action

The following morning, the four-year-old girl bravely told her mother what had happened. However, in a devastating turn, the mother allegedly ignored her daughter’s disclosure.

It was only when the child turned to her grandmother that the wheels of justice began to turn. The grandmother took the minor to Mutorashanga clinic, where medical staff observed that the minor had indeed been abused.

A report was filed at Mutorashanga police base, and the child was referred to Banket district hospital for further medical examinations.

Justice Served In Chinhoyi Court

Following his arrest, Kondo faced the full might of the law. Magistrate Amos Mbobo handed down a sentence of 20 years imprisonment, sending a clear message about the courts’ stance on crimes against minors.
