Relebohile Mofokeng delivered a sensational performance, scoring a hat-trick to lead Orlando Pirates to a commanding 6-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.
The 21-year-old attacker walked away with the Man of the Match award after a dominant display that underlined his growing influence in the team.
Pirates Star Sets New Club Milestone
Mofokeng’s three-goal haul marked a significant milestone, as he became the first Pirates player to score a league hat-trick since Tshegofatso Mabasa achieved the feat in December 2024.
The treble also stands as his first at senior level, further cementing his rapid rise in South African football. Just days earlier, he had been unveiled as one of the faces of Bafana Bafana ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup campaign.
Early Red Card Leaves Galaxy Struggling
The match took a decisive turn just four minutes in when TS Galaxy were reduced to 10 men. Defender Oupa Motaung was sent off for bringing down Mofokeng as the last man, leaving the referee with little option but to issue a red card.
Mofokeng stepped up and calmly converted the resulting free kick, setting the tone for what would become a one-sided encounter.
Goals Flow as Pirates Dominate
Pirates capitalised on their numerical advantage, racing into a three-goal lead before halftime. An own goal from Mlungisi Mbunjana compounded Galaxy’s misery, while Tshepang Moremi added another with a well-taken strike.
After the break, Mofokeng continued his brilliance, slicing through the defence to complete his brace before Kamohelo Sebelebele added a fifth goal.
The young star then wrapped up his hat-trick in style with a curling effort from outside the box in the 69th minute.

The emphatic win sees Orlando Pirates climb back to the top of the league standings, overtaking Mamelodi Sundowns, who were not in domestic action due to continental commitments.
For TS Galaxy, the defeat continues a poor run of form, with the team now suffering six losses in their last seven league matches.
