Julius Malema’s firstborn son, Ratanang Malema, has entered politics. He recently made his debut with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Furthermore, the teenager urged young people to support the party. He encouraged them to vote for the organisation led by his father.
Ratanang is the eldest son of Julius Malema and Maropeng Ramohlale. Meanwhile, Julius has two other sons with his wife, Mantwa.
Ratanang Campaigns for Youth Votes
In a video shared by the EFF, Ratanang addressed a crowd in Johannesburg. The event took place during a voter registration drive at Gandhi Square.
He completed matric at St David’s Marist Inanda last year. After that, he began supporting key EFF policies publicly.
These policies include land expropriation without compensation and free education.
Introducing himself to the crowd, he said, “My name is Ratanang Malema, and I am from ward 13, Seshegong. We were called by the leadership to encourage young people to vote.
He continued: “Young people need to stop standing on the sidelines, as politics affects them. We need to vote for change, for free education, liberation of our people and must vote for economic freedom in our lifetime”.
Julius Malema also explained why his son joined the campaign.
“I asked our leaders to ask my son to come and speak because it must not only be your children who do door to door, who go and register people, who go and campaign for the EFF – whereas Julius Malema’s children are in the comfort of their homes.
He added: “They must also go to the streets”.

Following in His Father’s Footsteps
Ratanang’s political debut reflects his father’s early journey. Julius Malema entered politics at a very young age.
He joined the ANC children’s wing at just nine years old. Later, he rose through COSAS and the ANC Youth League.
Eventually, he became ANCYL president in 2008. He later founded the EFF in 2013.
Similarly, Ratanang has already shown leadership at school. He served as one of the warcry leaders.
In addition, he shares another interest with his father. He is also an aspiring DJ.
