ZRP Orders Immediate Removal of Police Officers’ Social Media Posts in Uniform
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a sweeping directive ordering officers across the country to delete all social media content in which they appear in uniform without official approval.
The order, described as urgent, was communicated through an internal radio signal sent to stations nationwide on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner General Learn Ncube said the growing trend of officers sharing photos and videos of themselves online while in uniform was tarnishing the image of the force.

Warning Over ‘Unacceptable Behaviour’
In the directive, Ncube expressed concern over what he described as improper conduct by officers on platforms such as Facebook, TikTok and WhatsApp. He warned that appearing in uniform online without clearance violates established police regulations.
According to the communication, such actions risk eroding public confidence and compromising the integrity of the organisation, with authorities stressing that the behaviour cannot be tolerated any longer.
Immediate Compliance Required
Provincial commanders have been instructed to urgently brief all officers and ensure the message reaches every level of the service. Those who have already posted content in uniform have been ordered to take it down without delay.
The directive makes it clear that failure to comply will result in disciplinary measures, signalling a firm stance from police leadership.
Rising Trend Sparks Concern
The move follows a noticeable increase in officers sharing content online, ranging from casual photos to videos and commentary on public issues while dressed in official attire. Some of these posts have attracted large audiences, raising concerns within the command structure about professionalism and control of the police image.
Call to Uphold Professional Standards
Closing the directive, police leadership emphasised the importance of discipline and adherence to the force’s code of conduct.
Officers were reminded that maintaining professionalism both on and off duty remains a core expectation, particularly in the digital age where online actions can quickly shape public perception.
