Civil Servants Accept Government Salary Offer

Zimbabwe’s civil servants will receive a salary increase starting 1 April 2026. The government introduced the adjustment after a job evaluation exercise. The exercise aimed to align salaries with roles and responsibilities.

Edgar Moyo announced the development during a media briefing in Bulawayo on Friday. He said the adjustment shows the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare. However, he did not reveal the exact salary figures.

Negotiation Process and Agreement

The salary offer emerged from a meeting of the National Joint Negotiating Council. The meeting took place on 26 March 2026 at Kaguvi Building in Harare.

The council enables collective bargaining between government and civil service unions. It negotiates salaries, allowances, and working conditions for public workers.

Union Response and Implementation

Cecilia Alexander confirmed that unions accepted the offer after discussions with the government. She spoke to state media on Friday, 27 March.
She declined to disclose the exact salary figures. She said:

“Government tabled a remuneration offer which it indicated is informed by the outcomes of the job evaluation process.

“After some deliberations, we have taken a position to accept the offer in view of the urgent need to provide immediate relief to workers under the prevailing economic conditions.

“The US$320 will be maintained, and the outstanding portion will be paid in ZiG and indexed to the prevailing exchange rate.

“All public sector workers will be advised of their actual salaries through their respective official channels.”
