Orlando Pirates could lose Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis this season. Both players have delivered outstanding performances throughout the campaign. Together, they contributed nearly 20 goals across all competitions.
Moreover, Mofokeng has attracted interest from AS Monaco. His strong second-half form increases the chances of a transfer. Therefore, he may leave the Buccaneers at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Appollis has also drawn attention from European clubs. He impressed many during his debut season at Pirates.
Witbooi Emerges as Possible Replacement
Former Bucs winger Lebohang Mokoena suggests Emile Witbooi as a replacement. The Cape Town City youngster has shown strong potential.
“I love the boy plus he is the young man of Surprise, you know, it is in the blood. You can tell he is in the blood. We have sung praises for the boy. The club does not want to release him, they are probably going to sell him for a huge amount because he is one for the future,” Mokoena said on SoccerBeat.
“He has got experience at international level coming with the U20, U17. He’s come through those structures and also he is a well-developed player so you are going to get something out of that player as he grows and matures.”
World Cup Could Seal Their Fate
Mokoena further explained Witbooi’s potential impact at Pirates.
“He’s come through those structures and also he is a well-developed player, so you are going to get something out of that player as he grows and matures. So, a suitable replacement for Rele because Witbooi is also a player that if you also give him that free role, get into those spaces, he is very tricky, skillful he can score goals and crowd favourite,” he said.
Additionally, both Appollis and Mofokeng may feature in the Bafana Bafana World Cup squad. The tournament will take place in June.
If they perform well, their chances of moving abroad will increase. As a result, Pirates could lose both players next season.
